Capstone Curriculum
Our Capstone Curriculum is a comprehensive educational program designed to equip urban Christian leaders for effective ministry in the urban church and the city. The Capstone materials were created for the student, mentor and/or adjunct faculty in a church or organization who is interested in preparing urban Christians for vital lay and pastoral ministry, as well as outreach in urban evangelism and compassion ministry. The curriculum itself is composed of 16 separated modules (i.e. courses), drawn from our four departmental units here at The Urban Ministry Institute: Biblical Studies, Theology and Ethics, Christian Ministry and Urban Mission. Each Capstone module contains a mentor’s guide, student workbook and two DVDs (approximately 4 hours of video).

Foundations for Ministry Series
The Foundations for Ministry Series  was designed from the courses taught at The Urban Ministry Institute’s Hope School of Ministry in Wichita, Kansas. The topics and materials covered in these courses are foundational to effective urban ministry and will prove invaluable to anyone seeking to equip leaders in their cities. The Foundations for Ministry courses are self-directed studies created to help individual learners and/or study groups take advantage of quality theological instruction at an affordable price. It is highly recommended that groups of students work on the same Foundations course simultaneously and meet regularly to discuss their learning under the guidance of a mentor who can clarify the content, facilitate discussion about applications and monitor the formal evaluations. Each course is divided into eight lessons which are designed to be taught in 16 classroom hours surpassing the well-accepted “CEU” (Continuing Education Unit) standards. Each course features a student workbook and 7-8 audio tapes (2 hours each in length for regular courses, 1 hour each in length for short courses). Each course also contains a Ministry Project assignment, lesson assignments and Scripture memorization.

Upper Room Workshops
The Upper Room Workshops  are a learning experience created to equip urban Christian leaders to serve in and through the Church in the city; they are based on providing a profile of the effective servant leader in an urban church. An effective servant leader of Christ and his Kingdom is a faithful servant who possesses and displays: an authentic calling, a Biblical vision, a compelling testimony, a believing stance, a life shared in community, a healing presence and a passion to testify. These eight workshops are designed to be stand-alone learning events, yet modular in structure (i.e. each learning event is connected to the others in theology and theme, but independent of the others in terms of structure and presentation). Upper Room Workshops are TUMI-taught-and-led courses designed to equip lay and pastoral servants for ministry in the city. They are designed to be flexible and adaptable for particular church or ministry contexts; provide cooperative learning between students, churches or ministries; and supply a baseline introduction to the critical principles and education regarding ministry in the Church.
